Thermal Performance Analysis of Micro Pin Fin Heat Sinks under Different Flow Conditions

Due to microscale effects, the segmented microchannels or micro pin fin heat sinks emerged as a high thermal management solution. In this context, present work analyzes influence of different heights square fins with an aligned array and investigates their on pressure drop transfer behavior. The HFE-7100 is used working fluid, surface temperature behavior are analyzed for mass fluxes inlet subcooling. single-phase flow was numerically using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software ANSYS FLUENT® comparing simulation results experimental data, showing that highest configuration provides more uniform lowest wall distribution compared configuration. There good agreement between numerical analysis, mean absolute error 6% all considered parameters. For two-phase condition, tests were performed, subcooling, increase in flux causes enhancement low flux; by increasing flux, there gradual predominance boiling over convection mechanism. drastically increases vapor amount flowing into system, regardless height; curves higher height show much smaller slope superheat than smallest height, consequently, performance. A larger region sink filled lower subcooling temperatures, degrading performance temperatures.
